Duke University police on Wednesday identified the man killed in a weekend shooting outside the main entrance to Duke University Hospital.

Aaron Lorenzo Dorsey, 25, of Durham, died Saturday.

Duke Police officers Larry Carter and Jeffrey Liberto were responding to a report of a suspicious person in front of the hospital when the incident occurred. Dorsey attacked the officers and tried to gain control of one of the officer’s guns, Duke University Police Chief John Dailey said Wednesday.

After other options failed to stop the attack, the other officer fired once, fatally wounding Dorsey, Dailey said.

Both officers have been placed on paid administrative leave, pending the outcome of a review of the incident by the State Bureau of Investigation. Such moves are standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

Police hope to finish an internal investigative report by the end of the week, and university officials said they might release more information then.

The incident didn't affect patient care at the hospital, officials said.

Good job of the hospital police. I never would imagine something like this would happen at a hospital but it certainly shows the need for the hospital police. Again, good job.

Just don't gloat over this guy's death. I'm sure the officers involved are not gloating. I do hope they come to accept that they did what they had to do under the circumstances.

GREAT JOB and KUDOS to the officers for protecting the staff and patients at Duke Hospital!!! I too am a Christian and proud of that fact. To try and link Christianity to a psycho trying to fight an armed police officer is absurd. Talk about a desperate sucker punch towards Christianity. So, we should pray for the officers and their families as well as the family of the deceased.

"Maybe if he would have gotten his behind whipped more when he was young he would still be here today!!" mjlt3

Then his father would end up on the news like a few days ago.

Sad --- to many are gone to soon! (young men) Maybe if he would have gotten his behind whipped more when he was young he would still be here today!! My condolence to the family.
