Durham, N.C. — A Durham County deputy has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of a state investigation into the sale of knock-off designer products, authorities said Tuesday.
Investigators with the Secretary of State's Office searched LaFondita Restaurant on Avondale Drive in Durham on Monday after receiving information that handbags and other items bearing counterfeit designer logos and labels were being sold inside.
Lt. George McClain of the Durham County Sheriff's Office owns LaFondita, and authorities placed him on leave while the case is under investigation.
McClain has been with the sheriff's office since 1995.
