Cumberland County sheriff’s detectives on Tuesday charged a mother and father with the death of their 5-month-old baby.

Investigators said the child died on Dec. 21 from health complications due to a lack of medical care.

Aubrey Moore, 35, and Cortney Moore, 24, of 5635 Summerwind Drive, are both charged with first-degree murder in the death of their son, investigators said.

Detectives said the couple failed to provide the medical care and equipment prescribed by the child’s physician.

The couple was being held Tuesday in the Cumberland County Detention Center without bond. Their first court appearance was scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

"People cannot use the excuse of a child dying because they couldn't afford medical care --NOT IN THIS COUNTRY. No doctor in the country would turn a sick infant away. there are too many ways of getting help for dire situations." LADYBLUE

NO ghimmy...YOU ARE incorrect. They knew how to get help. They knew how to make the baby. There are more important things to some people than taking care of your child and it KILLS. Wake up.

not enough information is given here.....why is it they were unable to provide? was it b/c of finances/job loss?

People can be given many things. Sense enough to do what is right, unfortunately, is NOT on of those things we can "give".

I'm sorry Ladyblue. You are not correct. And you know what? Not everybody knows how to get help. There is more to this story and I don't know what it is. I'll withhold judgment until I do. I suggest others do the same rather than being the worst kind of judge, jury and executioners ... those with no interest in facts.

NCGUY- I'm all for doing something about the welfare/medicaid system but kicking them out won't solve anything... it just means that the kids will suffer. It's a vicious cycle. It's not the child's fault yet they are the ones that suffer because of deadbeat parents. I do believe in this case it was more neglecting to use the equipment ( oxygen & life support) than affording it, since it was probably paid for anyway. I don't uderstand though why they would even take the baby home knowing he was going to need special attention if they weren't committed to caring for him. I'm with the person below, lots of people would have taken the infant who can't have children and cared for him.
