FORT BRAGG, N.C. — The FBI on Thursday charged a South Carolina woman with killing her soldier daughter on Fort Bragg, according to federal court documents.

Pfc. Autumn Michelle Shannon, 32, was found dead in her home, at 147 S. Dougherty Drive, late Monday after a neighbor called military police.

Court documents said Shannon had been stabbed several times, including at least once in the neck, and was lying naked on the floor of her bedroom.

Linda Hough Shannon is charged with second-degree murder in the case.

Military police had detained Linda Shannon, Autumn Shannon's mother, at her daughter's house. She was covered in blood, according to court documents.

Paramedics later took Linda Shannon to Womack Army Medical Center for treatment of a stab wound, and she told investigators that she had killed her daughter during an argument.

She said she had been living on post with her daughter since December, when Autumn Shannon was injured in a car accident. Autumn Shannon recently returned to work as a cook at Fort Bragg on a limited basis, and she and her mother began arguing Monday night after she returned from work, court documents state.

Linda Shannon said the argument began when her daughter blamed her for some non-judicial punishment she received from a superior officer, according to court documents. She told investigators she grabbed a knife from the kitchen at some point and that she and her daughter began wrestling over it.

She said she tried unsuccessfully to call 911, and she then ran outside to seek help.
