Wreck, spilled flooring close N.C. 55 near I-40

e-mail print friendly

Part of N.C. Highway 55 was closed Wednesday morning after a wreck left the area covered in hardwood flooring, police said.

The wreck occurred at about 8:40 a.m. near the entrance ramp to Interstate 40. A tractor-trailer and a 22-foot box truck collided, and the box truck overturned, spilling its load of flooring on the highway, police said.

At least one person was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that police said didn't appear to be life-threatening.

N.C. 55 was closed until shortly after 11 a.m.

hwy 55 smells of rich mahogony, and many leather bound books.

use the flooring for pot holes lol

Flooring, so that's what it was. I saw this around 8:45 on my way to work, and it looked like pieces of lumber in the road. It was right at the on-ramp for I-40 East and was blocking that left turn onto 40. From a distance it looked like the 18-wheeler had maybe jack-knifed; then up close you could see the smaller, overturned truck.

The driver of the box truck must have floored it.

And I just bought 8 boxes of flooring yesterday. Dang, I could have waited one more day.
