A Durham police officer has been charged with breaking and entering and extortion.

Wake County sheriff's deputies arrested Stephen Patrick Commander Jr., 31, of 3621 Ashton Glen Lane in Oxford, on Friday in connection with a November home break-in in Wake Forest. He is also accused of threatening the homeowners.

Durham Police Department spokeswoman Kammie Michael confirmed Tuesday that Commander is an officer but did not provide any other details.

According to an arrest warrant, Commander "unlawfully, willfully and feloniously" broke into a residence and did "threaten and communicate a threat."

Commander is out of jail on a $3,000 secured bond.

Exactly! Witnesses could very well be lying. Before we ruin this police officers life maybe we should wait to hear what happened. False accusations will ruin this guys life.

Regarding the arrest of Commander, it is possible that he's innocent. Although I hope that the Wake County D.A. (or any law enforcement agency) wouldn't charge him without proof beyond a reasonable doubt. For this type of crime it may be that the victims/witnesses are lying, and that the case relies completely on their testimony, but there may be other evidence as well that has helped lead to his arrest.

I only hope that the truth comes out in the end. If he's falsely accused then he deserves exoneration, if guilty then a felony conviction.

Are you serious? A police officer's job deals with the law and arresting people who break it. I could care less if a suspected criminal is a baker or plumber. When a LEO decides to break the law, it should be in the news.

To everyone who thinks that that bond was to low, let's look at this scenario that is experienced everyday by officers. A guy is arrested for the 15th, no let's say 20th time for selling weed, crack, heroin, meth or whatever else to kids, mothers, fathers, whoever. This same individual has a decent amount of the said illegal narcotics on him when he is arrested and let's throw in a gun as well and he only gets a $3500-5000 bond. Terrible set of rules we have to live by but it is what it is! It happens everyday! Some bonds are set by the offense and the subjects past history that committed the offense (which is the way it should be). Then their are times when the magistrate just doesn't care, its all up to them and which side of the bed they woke up on that day...

This is just ridiculous!! First let me say IF he is guilty I hope they throw the book at him!! Second, let me say if he is innocent I hope you all think about how stupid you have acted. I am sure though if he is found guilty many will still say "it was a cover up again!!" I'm so sick of the cop bashing on GOLO!!! For that matter 99% of the stories about crime get some of the most ignorant comments that could be made!! People just love to take absolutely no facts and put in ALL KINDS of opinions. Maybe one day you all will grow up and act like you have some sense, but I'm not holding my breath until then!!

BTW: I will still be out there putting my b utt on the line for you and your family can be safe. I personally don't care what you think of me, because I love being able to make a positive difference in the lives of others, and I enjoy keeping all of you as safe as I can from the rif-raft on the streets.
