Wrong-way driver caused power outage in downtown Raleigh

A driver headed the wrong way on Morgan Street in Raleigh Friday night caused the collision that knocked out power for 100 customers, Raleigh police spokesman Jim Sughrue said.

The wreck happened just before midnight and a Progress Energy spokesman said power was restored in about 90 minutes.

Frederick Andrew Angoco II was driving west on Morgan Street when he collided with another car at the intersection with Dawson Street, according to the police report on the incident. He then continued through the intersection and hit a guy wire on a power pole, triggering the outage.

Police charged Angoco, 29, of 240 Manchester Road in Havelock, with going the wrong way on a one-way street and failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
