A Highway Patrol trooper who was in the home of a Chatham County woman last summer when her estranged husband allegedly attacked her has been demoted and transferred, officials said Thursday.

Trooper Anthony E. Scott, 38, a 15-year veteran of the force, was reassigned last month from Siler City to Charlotte. Highway Patrol officials declined to comment on the move.

Scott was at the Pittsboro home of lawyer Jennifer Andrews on Aug. 14 when when her estranged husband, real estate broker Eric Andrews, pointed a gun at her, choked her and threatened her life, authorities said.

The Highway Patrol said the trooper was on duty at the time but wasn't at the home on official business.

There was no indication whether Scott tried to intervene in the assault.

OK. This is why we are having soooo many homicides, husband, boyfriendS killing their wifes, or girlfriends. The police sometimes do not take these cases seriously. Assault on a female should not just be a slap on the hand for these guys, it should be a felony and harder for them to get out of jail. NOT no 72 hrs. I hope the officer learnes his lesson, and not to just sit and watch stuff like this go on infront of him.

What a doofus! People think the NCHP is so perfect. And, the CCPS will pretty much say anything to protect it's troopers, even when they screw up.

You should all go back and read the HP internal reports that were made public several years ago.

In North Carolina if a LEO witnesses or see's evidence of domestic abused they are required to make an arrest, no discretion. That could have been why he got in trouble. Or, he was seeing her and the ex husband found them together. The trooper got a lot of explaining to do.

The Patrol knew something was wrong when Scott started he statement by saying "Well, what had happen was?"

Another example of our fine outstanding SHP. They move him to another location and allow him to keep his job! Perhaps a raise and a promotion would also be in order.

Did this guy use this officers weapon against them? and maybe that's why he couldn't do nothing to handle the situation.
