Raleigh police helped Cary police on Tuesday capture a 21-year-old probationer who was accused of abandoning his infant in a vehicle when approached by officers Sunday night.

Investigators found Justin Devone Bell at a relative's house in Raleigh around 12:30 a.m. He was taken into custody without incident, authorities said.

Bell is charged with child abuse, resisting and obstructing a public officer, possession with the intent to sell and distribute marijuana and failure to appear.

On Sunday night, officers approached Bell, who was sitting inside a vehicle in the parking lot of the First Citizens Bank on Kildaire Farm Road around 10:30 p.m.

Officers said he gave them a false name and told them he was waiting for a woman who was cleaning the bank. He then ran away, leaving his 6-month-old baby in the vehicle, police said.

The baby was OK and returned to the mother, authorities said.

Bell is on probation for March 2009 convictions for delivering or selling drugs, breaking-and-entering vehicles, larceny, obstructing justice and driving on a revoked license, according to state Department of Correction records.

"So he should have run from police and kept the child? At least if he HAD to run he didn't endanger the child too.."

Are you really asking this? Did that question really enter your mind? There's a list of things this loser should and shouldn't have done, mainly take a child on a drug deal and also, run from the police in the first place.

So he should have run from police and kept the child? At least if he HAD to run he didn't endanger the child too..

Children do not pick their parents. Poor child! Good luck!

I keep coming back to see when the Race Card it going to be flipped out on the table!

...if she let someone of his background take her child....Chapel Hill Conservative

She had a child with him...I'm sure his background doesn't matter...he's still the child's father.
