Durham Rescue Mission

The Durham Rescue Mission is asking for help to make Christmas merry for children in need.

The group is collecting toys for an annual giveaway and is still short of its goal.

Ernie Mills, executive director of the mission, said, "We are completely dependent on the generosity of the public, and so if they don't come through, I'm afraid there are going to be a lot of sad kids tomorrow."

Volunteers expect more than 2,000 children to turn out Wednesday – more than the total 1,600 people served a year ago. The mission hopes to give each child two toys.

In 2008, the mission gave away more than 7,000 toys, 10,000 pieces of clothing and 850 bags of groceries at its annual celebration.

Donors are asked to bring toys or clothing to the Durham Rescue mission, 1201 E. Main St. Donors can also give to the Raleigh Rescue Mission, at 314 E. Hargett St.

Well, if you don't get more then I suggest, each child gets only one toy. They will go farther anyway.
