Probation absconder caught during traffic stop

e-mail print friendly

A man listed as an absconder from probation was caught during a traffic stop in Roanoke Rapids Sunday in which the driver handed over a bag of marijuana.

Authorities said that Deputy Chris High stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation on U.S. Highway 158, near Sunset Crest Lane, then noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle. The driver, Ebony Tahiti Daniels, 32, handed over a bag containing 4 ounces of the drug.

High determined that one of her passengers, Christopher Paul Pinkney, 23, had an outstanding arrest warrant from the state Department of Corrections, authorities said.

Pinkney, of Mackie Street in Weldon, was arrested and placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $10,000 bond. Daniels, of Ash Street in Weldon, was cited for possession of marijuana.

Pinkney was placed on probation in March on two convictions for possession of drugs with intent to sell, according to DOC records. He was previous convictions for simple assault, receiving stolen goods, resisting an officer drug violations and breaking into motor vehicles.

Deputy High just has a good press agent..

Cited and released for 4 OUNCES of Marijuana?!?!?! ..grams, maybe. That's a couple of felonies if they were indeed ounces.

Why does this make the news? I mean absconders are arrested EVERY day! This one happens to be high and driving...so this is a "news" worthy article?

How about WRAL investigates something like Gov. Bev hosting a Xmas party for murderers, or how Waste Managment destroyed my Xmas decorations with their careless behavior of picking up and putting down trash cans!!!

Better Headline:

Deputy "High" catches high driver and probation absconder.

Don't you just love probation? It gives criminals another chance to perfect their art.
