Fayetteville, N.C. — Two men have been charged in an incident where a Fayetteville officer was shot in the hand on Friday, according to police spokeswoman Theresa Chance.

Police responded to reports of a break-in in progress at 6148 Wynnwood Drive shortly after 11 p.m. Officers said they saw four people running from the scene and apprehended three.

A fourth person ran, and an officer gave chase on foot. Shots were fired during the chase, and a bullet struck the officer's hand, police said.

Officer Mark Jodoin received a flesh wound and was treated at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center and released.

Terell Lee Cheatham, 21, of 6445 Ginger Circle, was charged Monday with assault with a deadly weapon on a government official, second-degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering and possession of stolen goods.

Cheatham was being held under a $125,000 bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

William Lamarr Cowan, 25, of 6491 Pleasant St., is charged with larceny of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen motor vehicle. He was being held Monday under a $25,000 bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.

The third person who was taken into custody wasn't charged, said Theresa Chance, spokeswoman for the Fayetteville Police Department.

The investigation is ongoing.
