Rocky Mount, N.C. — Two men fired at least one shot and threatened to kill a cashier while robbing a restaurant on West Thomas Street Thursday night, Rocky Mount police said.

The men were carrying a handgun and a shotgun when they entered New China Restaurant, 430 W. Thomas St., shortly before 10 p.m., police said. They threatened the cashier and demanded money.

One man fired from the shotgun into the overhead menu, police said. The cashier handed over the money in the register, and the robbers fled.

They were last seen in a white, older model Honda Accord traveling east on Gay Street. The Accord might be a 1989, 1990 or 1991 model.

Police described the suspects as black men, between 20 and 30 years old. One man is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs about 185 pounds and has close-cropped hair. He was wearing a black T-shirt pants and white shoes and gloves. He carried a shotgun.

The second man is 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs about 165 pounds and has medium-length dreadlocks.  He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans, black shoes and white gloves. He carried a black handgun.
