Orange County library closing for move

e-mail print friendly

The Orange County Main Library at 300 West Tyron St. will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 13 to move to a new facility, library officials announced Wednesday.

The library has operated in the Whitted Building for 29 years. It will re-open to the public at the new location at 137 West Margaret Lane in Hillsborough on Jan. 8. The new location is closer to the center of downtown historic Hillsborough.

While the main library is closed, patrons can visit the Carrboro branch library at McDougle Middle School, the Cybrary at the Carrboro Century Center and the Cedar Grove Branch in the Northern Human Services Center.

The Cedar Grove Branch will have extended Saturday hours, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Dec. 19 and Jan. 2.

One of the biggest blunders of this 'move' is that the new library has actually LESS shelf space for books than the old library. Nice planning, folks.

Perhaps we can get Brenda back and assign her to moving the books one at a time?
