Woman charged with rear-ending vehicle on I-40

State troopers say that fatigue likely caused a Raleigh woman to rear-end another vehicle on Interstate 40 in Cary early Monday.

Troopers said that Shameaka Thomas, 32, was driving a Isuzu Rodeo behind a Chrysler Pacifica on I-40 West, near Harrison Avenue, around 3:45 a.m. Thomas' Rodeo hit the Pacifica, and both drivers lost control and crashed into a guardrail on the right shoulder.

The Pacifica driver – Andrew Chigozie, 49, of Durham – was taken to Rex Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Thomas was charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid a collision. She told troopers that she felt tired before the wreck. Troopers determined that weather, alcohol and speed were not factors.

Chigozie and Thomas were both headed to work, troopers said.

State law in NC now mandates that you carry the same uninsured limits as your own liability limits, so you dont have a choice in NC now.
