Rocky Mount police are searching for two suspects involved in a shooting in front of 417 Villa Street Thursday.

Gary Beaver, 47, was walking from Chester Street to Villa Street when he was approached by two unknown black men. The suspects shot Beaver multiple times in his legs, back and neck.

The motive of the shooting is unknown, authorities said.

Beaver was taken to Nash General Hospital and was listed in crucial condition Thursday night.

One suspect was wearing a white T-shirt and the other was in a black T-shirt.

Anyone with information about the shooting should call Rocky Mount police at 252-972-1411 or Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.

Can you imagine the hype from the media and civil rights groups had it been 2 white guys shooting a black guy on the street? Jesse? Al? NAACP? And regarding the NAACP, are we still referring to black people as colored? Don't we all have some sort of color to us? Then why doesn't the NAACP, or Jesse, or Al speak up like they would if the scenerio were reversed? No, this shooting is just another day in Rocky Mount...business as usual.

dontlookback - you must have such an inspiring, sunny, optimistic nature (I hope my sarcasm is apparent).

Well, its a shame. I hope the victim makes it. Glad to see it wasn't another "bike-by" though. Those are horrible!

Re: "Rocky Mount ...needs its citizens to be proud of what was once a thriving, prosperous and growing town, rich in history, culture and industry."

Being proud of the past doesn't mean you can't be ashamed and frightened of the present state the city is in. It is more like Gotham city than the thriving town you describe these days.

Rocky Mount needs new leadership and a serious, objective, review of its public services. Until ALL of the people who live there stop looking at race as a criteria for votes and policy decisions, that will not likely happen.

First of all, I have never heard of anyone being in "crucial" condition. Second, I was raised and lived in Rocky Mount from 1971 through 1989 and I am so glad to be away. I would never go back to the "City on the Rise"
