New Hill, N.C. — Progress Energy shut down its Shearon Harris nuclear plant in southwest Wake County late Sunday night because of an oil leak, a spokeswoman said Monday.
Maintenance workers changing an oil filter on a platform used to lubricate the main generator discovered the leak, spokeswoman Julia Milstead said.
Crews were working to repair the problem, but there was no word on when the nuclear plant might be restarted, Milstead said.
