UNC-CH considers tuition hike

A task force is studying the possibility of tuition increases at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill.

At a meeting Wednesday, the group agreed to suggest two options to Chancellor Holden Thorp.

Under the first plan, undergraduates would see tuition increase by 5.2 percent; graduate students would see a 3.7 percent increase.

Under the second plan, an across-the-board increase of 6.5 percent would be levied on all students.

Any change must be approved by the chancellor, the Board of Trustees, the UNC Board of Governors and the state General Assembly.

Their business model is so last century. It is bloated and very wasteful.

Tuition increases are frequently discussed in the media. What is not discussed are the ever increasing Room, Board, Fee, and Book expenses. I've seen each of these increase every semester that my daughter has attended.

For in state students tuition is actually a rather small piece of the pie ... but for some reason its also the only piece discussed in the media.

Just an FYI ... not that anybody will care.

Where can I sign up for a position on one of these "task forces"? I bet the compensation package is "competitive".............

Are you kidding? My tuition went up 22% unexpectedly this year...that wasn't enough??

Guess my daughter won't be going there.
