After arrests, classes resume at Virginia community college

The report of a person with a gun prompted a lockdown on the campus of Danville Community College in Virginia Wednesday morning.

Danville Police were called to the school just before 9 a.m. After a search of the campus, they arrested three juvenile suspects found hiding in an apartment at the Cardinal Village complex.

A sweep of the campus revealed several student vehicles had been broken into, police said. One student reported a gun had been stolen from a car, police said.

Some of the items believed to have been stolen from student cars, including the gun, were found in the apartment where the suspects were hiding, police said.

College spokeswoman Andrea Burney said the campus was locked down for about an hour while local police investigated "several incidents." She said classes resumed just after 10:30 a.m.

Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact Danville Crime Stoppers at 434-793-0000 or e-mail crimetips@ci.danville.va.us. Information given will remain confidential and tipsters may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
