Motorcyclist hit, killed in parking lot

Raleigh, N.C. — A motorcyclist died Monday afternoon after he was knocked off his bike and run over in a west Raleigh shopping center parking lot, police said.

Nancy McCall Bashford, 82, of 6321 Johnsdale Road in Raleigh, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

According to the police report on the wreck, Bashford rear-ended William Thomas McKay, 41, of Wake Forest, when he slowed to go over a speed bump in the Ridgewood Shopping Center parking lot.

McKay lost control of the motorcycle, and he fell off as the bike skidded on its side across the parking lot, the report states.

Bashford then ran over him and into a median before stopping, the report states.

McKay was taken to WakeMed, where he died of his injuries.

Unfortunately this tragedy is not a shocker around here. Drivers here are terrible for amny reasons.. Sad for all involved.

sounds like she didn't even see him at all....which is possible. its hard to see motorcycles sometimes.

To anyone still confused about the facts of this story: Yes, the woman who hit him and knocked him off his bike was the same driver who then ran over him. He died of the injuries sustained as a result.
