Audit criticizes DOI employee reimbursements

e-mail print friendly

The state Department of Insurance didn't properly document reimbursements paid to employees for home Internet use, travel and cell phone use, according to a recent state audit.

Investigators with the State Auditor's Office questioned 53 instances of DOI employees being reimbursed for Internet service at home. They also said managers in the insurance department didn't review records of state-owned cell phone records to ensure employees weren't using them for personal calls.

Other findings in the audit include questions about reimbursements paid to employees for travel and for using their personal vehicles on state business, as well as eight instances where there was no documentation for an increase in an employee's pay grade.

DOI officials said they would tighten up their internal financial controls.

Why in the world would we be paying the bill for someones home internet service, even if these people work from home that is a benefit in itself, save on fuel not driving to the office, get to stay in your PJ's all day. Now the tax payer should pay for your internet service as well, do all State Employee's get their internet service payed for or just the chosen ones???

The Commissioner of Insurance is part of Perdue's Council of State. They all pat each other on the back. Wood is scared not to post these findings in wake of the Easley debacle (remember she's the one who failed to post the report for obvious political reasons). Let's demand better NC!!

The Guverness doesn't run DOI, the elected Commissioner of Insurance does.

Just another example of Bev's well run Government. I bet they lost these records in the computers as well. Get rid of all of them and there lobbyist also. No wonder we can't get any other companies to bid on health insurance in NC and how we get to pay for people who have beach property and need our help to pay there homeowners. CROOKS CROOKS CROOKS
