Another 10 employees of the Wake County Public School System will lose their jobs effective Dec. 2, the school board announced Tuesday.

All of the jobs being cut are related to school construction. As the district delays or cancels building projects due to lack of funds, it is cutting the people who would work on those projects.

This is the second of three waves of layoffs for the Wake schools. In June, 22 employees were laid off, and Superintendent Del Burns imposed a hiring freeze on teachers in grades 6 through 12.

There will be a third round of layoffs in early 2010, Burns said.

I had over 30 in my classes when I was in school in the 60's and 70's. I turned out alright. What's the big deal on class sizes.

Good post, timbo. There's a lot of admin positions that can go.

::sigh:: Well, that kills all my hopes that my kids will get their new school building. Their current facility is old, beyond renovating and not up to current codes. It was scheduled for demo and rebuild, but the project has been delayed... indefinitely. Seems we'll never set foot in that shiny new building we saw drawings of. Hope the next wave gets to enjoy it.

And the bonds we vote on and the lottery is for what????

Maybe they should make a run through the school board building and anyone that ain't there by 8:30 should be let go.

hkymom..Your poor poor little baby with 34 kids...get real !! Wake County Schools have been give close to 2 BILLION dollars in the las 6 years. Frankly sweetie, if dont like put her in private school. Taxpayers are SICK of the money grab !
