Durham demolition complete

Haskell Properties rentals razed on Boone Street in Durham

City crews completed the demolition of five rental properties on Boone Street in Durham Tuesday.

The buildings don't meet city building codes and have been the subject of a court dispute.

Officials say the ownership group, Haskell Properties, has had years to bring them up to code and has already had repeated extensions.

The family obtained a temporary restraining order two months ago to block a planned demolition, but Rick Hester, Durham's housing codes administrator and assistant director of the city Department of Neighborhood Improvement Services, said the order has expired, clearing the path for the buildings to come down.

Nearby residents have complained the Boone Street houses have been a haven for drug dealers and vagrants, Durham officials said.

Newsflash for you, exposure102, Raleigh has crack houses. They're everywhere - not just in Durham.

Good.

They missed the burned out house in the 1900 block of Ashe St that Haskill properties owns.

Can't destroy all the Durham crack houses - the inhabitants will just find their way over to Raleigh thanks to the public transportation system and we can't be having that...

By the headline, I was hoping to read they'd knocked the whole city down.
