A North Carolina native was among the Marines killed Monday when two U.S. Marine helicopters – one UH-1 and an AH-1 Cobra – collided in flight before sunrise over the southern province of Helmand in Afghanistan, military officials said.

Captain David “Seth” Mitchell, 30, was born in Charlotte and attended Garner High School. He later graduated from Loveland High School in Loveland, Ohio. He lived in Cincinnati for 10 years.

Mitchell was one of four Marines killed in the crash. Two others were injured.

In a separate incident Monday, a U.S. military helicopter crashed while returning from the scene of a firefight with suspected Taliban drug traffickers in western Afghanistan, killing 10 Americans including three DEA agents.

The incidents combined to make Monday the deadliest day for U.S. forces in Afghanistan in more than four years.

He also graduated from Va Tech and was in their ROTC program. He was honored at Va Tech yesterday. The time has come to end the "war" and leave before anymore die. Sympathies to his family.

Well, more & more of our brave young people are being sent to be slaughtered. I guess Mr. President, this represents change to YOU. Every dead American id these worthless wars, means "Change" to the deceased families and friends. Instead of you: Mr President, Your cabinet members, those worthless 535 sitting on capitol hill, playing games with healthcare, bank & financial bailouts, auto takeovers, you main job is how to get our people home from the poppy fields. Get them here to protect our borders from illegals, get some of our 15,000,000 back to work, get oil out of the ground in the mid-west and our surrounding waters, etc. If they took care of healthcare step-at-a-time, many issues could have been resolved in healthcare and the other issues that I just wrote about.

Thoughts and Prayers to this Soldiers Family and Friends!!! Thank You for serving and protecting us. RIP!!!

Our prays are with the family. Please bring all the rest of our soldiers home safely.

My heartfelt sympathies to the family of this brave marine.
