Woman killed in I-95 wreck

Woman killed in I-95 wreck

A 37-year-old woman from New Jersey died after being thrown from a car during a single-vehicle wreck on Interstate 95 South in northern Cumberland County, state troopers said.

The wreck happened near mile marker 66, about a mile north of the Godwin-Falcon Road exit, around 2 a.m.

Troopers said the car went off the right shoulder, and the driver over-corrected. The car flipped over several times.

Lakisha Odom, of Newark, N.J., was thrown from the rear passenger seat. She died of her injuries, troopers said.

The driver and another passenger were pinned inside the car. They were transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they were listed in stable condition.

Troopers said that Odom wasn't wearing a seat belt.

The group was traveling from New Jersey to South Carolina.

I-95 South was shut down for a couple hours after the wreck.
