Incumbents lead in Cary election, Durham primary

Raleigh, N.C. — Incumbent Cary Town Council members won re-election in two races and led in a third Tuesday.

Meanwhile, incumbents also easily won primaries in two Durham City Council races and moved into runoff elections on Nov. 3.

According to unofficial results, Councilwoman Julie Robison held onto her at-large seat on the Cary council with 81 percent of the vote, and Councilman Jack Smith won his District C race with two-thirds of the vote.

Councilwoman Jennifer Robinson led challenger Lori Bush in District A by a 50 to 42 percent margin, but Robinson lacked a majority of votes to fend off a possible runoff election next month.

In Durham, Councilwoman Cora Cole-McFadden will face Donald Hughes in the Ward 1 election. Councilman Howard Clement easily won his Ward 2 primary, but his opponent next month hasn't yet been determined, with Matt Drew, Sylvester Williams and Darius Little all within 100 votes of each other, according to unofficial results.
