genie2u, I disagree...I taught my kids things like that without popping the hand or bottom. I taught them how to behave in public and got many compliments. Discipline? Start by taking everything out of their rooms THEN send them there. It's not punishment if they have a tv, game, gameboy, dvd player, phone, etc. I took away our teen's car one time and she straightened up. YOU have to be the parent and let them know what you expect.

Honestly, now days, the kids can "say" anything they want and social services goes riding out the gate like a lynch mob after the parents. NO justice, no authority for parents any more. SEOpro

May be, but look how many live in morbidly heinous conditions, only to go unheard for years and years.

Parents shouldn't have a problem with being checked into if they are taking care of their children properly....there is nothing to fear.

I do not believe in beating children, but if you do not start early and teach them that the universe does not revolve around them, then the result is the "teenage toddler".....which in turn leads to the twentysomething toddler. They just don't evolve into mature adults anymore, because no one ever tells them NO! Don't think so? READ THE NEWS! We see things everyday that were unheard of even ten years ago! If 60 is the new 40, then 16 is the new 2.

Yes, you have to spank your children sometimes. When they are 2-3 years old and about to run out in the street or touch a hot stove, you cannot REASON with them. YOu pop their hand or bottom. Lord, parents like you that believe all this "new age" mess is why our kids are filling our county jails and do not respect/fear authority. And yes I said FEAR because that has to be at least a small part of it. Fear of what will happen and fear of the consequences.
