Pilots battle coyotes at RDU

e-mail print friendly

Pilots flying out of Raleigh-Durham International Airport have reported run-ins with coyotes this week. Airport officials said planes hit the animals twice.

“The coyotes ran away. There was no damage to the aircraft or the passengers. The planes were going about 30 mph,” said spokeswoman Mindy Hamlin.

The aircrafts were regional jets carrying around 50 passengers.

About 17 traps have been placed around the airfield to catch the animals. So far, two have been caught.

Airport workers are also using pyrotechnics to keep the animals away.
