Third suspect in Memorial Day slaying arrested

Raleigh, N.C. — Raleigh police arrested a third suspect Saturday in connection with the Memorial Day shooting death of 18-year-old Rodriquez D’Shay Burrell.

Murder charges were filed Friday against Dontaous Demond Devine, 21, Demetrius Deshaun Toney, 17, and Brandon Jowan Mangum, 21. Toney and Mangum were arrested Friday and placed in the Wake County Jail.

A Raleigh police officer found Devine Saturday at a hotel in the 2500 block of South Saunders Street and arrested him without incident.

Burrell was sitting outside his father's house at 500 Haywood St., when he was shot several times on May 25. Emergency crews took him to WakeMed, where he died, police said.

According to state Department of Correction records, Devine is on probation for convictions for selling drugs in Wake County. He was imprisoned for eight months in 2006 after being convicted of common-law robbery. That robbery happened eight days after Devine was sentenced to probation for possessing stolen goods in a separate case. His probation was revoked.

DOC records show that Mangum was released from prison a year ago. He served nearly 3 years on convictions for armed robbery and attempted armed robbery.

These animals must be locked up for life! Sure in the short term it will cost us a lot of money! But i really believe in the long run as more and more of these animals see that we are serious about them never getting out of jail! Fewer will break our laws and the cost will start to level out. More will force themselves to stay in school and get educated! The ones in jail can just die there! This will work! We just have to have the guts to do it! Now!
