Clayton, N.C. — Clayton police arrested a woman and a man Saturday who they say tried to shoplift from a Walmart store and told an employee and a motorist they had a gun.

Officers arrested Keisha Levette Lasane, 40, of 1104 Holman St. in Raleigh, and Corey Dovone Hairston, 38, of 710 Tyler Road in Raleigh, after being called out to a larceny at the Walmart at 805 Town Centre Blvd. last Saturday.

A loss-prevention employee told police that he detained Lasane and Hairston after they hid clothing and health care products. One of them told the worker that they had a gun, so he didn't try to stop them when they left, police said.

The employee described the two to police, and Officer Scott Holzshu spotted them in the parking lot. Police said that Holzshu detained Hairston in his cruiser but saw Lasane jump into the passenger side of a car.

Lasane told the driver, Linda Moser, 62, of Newton Grove, that she had a gun and ordered her to drive away, police said. Holzshu ran after the car and detained Lasane before the car left.

Investigators did not find a gun, and no one was injured. Police recovered $175 worth of stolen property belonging to Walmart.

Lasane was charged with felonious restraint, misdemeanor larceny and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer. She was given a $42,500 secured bond.

Hairston was charged with aiding and abetting larceny and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer, both misdemeanors. He was given a $2,500 secured.

They were both being held in the Johnston County Jail Wednesday.

According to state Department of Correction records, Lasane was placed on probation in December for food stamp fraud. She has other convictions dating to 1998, including fraud, larceny and shoplifting.
