Dozens of cats removed from a Cary home nearly two weeks ago are getting spayed or neutered, and many already have new homes to go to.

Homeowner Jean Diaz surrendered 65 cats to animal control officers after complaints from neighbors on Chapel Hill Road. Twenty-nine cats had to be put down for health reasons, while Cat Angels Pet Adoptions took 36 and Diaz was allowed to keep four others.

The three unspayed females kept by Diaz have all since been fixed, said Mike Fox, vice president of Cat Angels. Cary police officers and Cat Angels and SPCA volunteers raised money for the procedures at the SPCA's low-cost clinic.

The animals taken in by Cat Angels will get fixed Tuesday by SNAP-NC, a mobile vet clinic.

Fox said 12 of those cats have already been adopted, and other people are deciding which cats to take home. The adopted cats will go to their new homes after their surgeries.

The rest will stay in Cat Angel's program until they are adopted, Fox said.
