Rocky Mount, N.C. — A 27-year-old man was playing cards when another man hit him with a baseball bat Saturday evening, Rocky Mount police said.
Police said Florez Prubencio was at a card table at 2119 Leggett Road shortly before 8 p.m. when Francisco Hernandez approached. Hernandez hit Prubencio in the head with a baseball, then punched the victim in the face, police said.
Prubencio was treated at Nash General Hospital for a broken nose and injury to the back of his head.
Hernandez was charged with assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury. He was being held in the Edgecombe County Jail early Sunday under a $8,000 secured bond.
