Fayetteville, N.C. — A high school math teacher is charged with having sex with a student, Cumberland County Sheriff’s detectives said Friday.
Phillip Coffelt, 33, of 3464 Mchoen Drive, Fayetteville, is charged with four counts of sexual activity by school personnel with a student. Coffelt is a teacher at Terry Sanford High School.
The 17-year-old victim told authorities there were at least four encounters at Coffelt’s home between February and April 2009.
Coffelt was being held Friday night at the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $100,000 secured bond.
