Pedestrian killed in Sampson hit-and-run

State troopers said that a driver fled after hitting and killing an unidentified Hispanic man on a road outside Newton Grove early Sunday.

Troopers said the hit-and-run occurred on Lassiter Road, near Cedar Point Road, around 3:30 a.m. The victim was either sitting or laying in the southbound lane when the vehicle struck him.

The victim, who was in his late teens or early 20s, was not carrying identification.

Troopers did not have a description of the vehicle. The State Bureau of Investigation was assisting in the investigation.
