Raleigh police identified the woman whose body was found on the grounds of Sacred Heart Cathedral in downtown Tuesday morning. She is Martha Hamilton Watkins, 54, police said.

Police spokesman Jim Sughrue said a woman going to the church, at 200 Hillsborough St., to tutor a student found the body around 7 a.m.

Sughrue also confirmed that Watkins was the victim of a homicide, although he did not release the cause of death.

Investigators urge anyone with information about the woman's death to contact the Raleigh Police Department at 919-996-3555.

Wow... she was actually a rather kind woman and had been a hard working one, at that. I spoke with her often in Moore Square while waiting for the bus in the morning to get to work. This is just so sad....

What a shame.

Praying for her soul, and praying she has loved ones to bid her goodbye.

Praying also that her murderer is found quickly, before he hurts anyone else.

God bless.

I pray this lady has some family who will come and take her and give her a rightful burial. Bless her and her family.

They said previously she was homeless. Why would anyone want to kill someone who has nothing. This is a shame and I hope she is in peace.

It's so sad to hear another person's life has fallen to the violence of another. I pray she is at peace...and will never be hurt or have to suffer again.
