Roanoke Rapids, N.C. — Two Roanoke Rapids men face larceny charges after a sergeant with the Halifax County Sheriff's Office found stolen pork chops in their vehicle.
Sgt. R. Keeton stopped a suspicious vehicle on Bolling Road around 8:30 p.m. Saturday, authorities said. Keeton noticed several packs of Smithfield pork chops in the vehicle, and investigation showed they had been stolen from Food Lion.
Keeton arrested the vehicle's occupants, Jaquan Rashee Cheek, 19, and Keith Arrington, 30. They were placed in the Halifax County Jail under a $500 secured bond. Their next court date was set for Aug. 18.
According to state Department of Correction records, Cheek was placed on probation June 15 for a 2007 common-law robbery. Cheek was also put on probation for shoplifting in 2008 and later that year served a three-month sentence for two larceny convictions.
DOC records show that Arrington finished a year-long probation sentence for larceny in May. He was also convicted of misdemeanor breaking-and-entering in 2003.
