DWI suspect flees in hospital gown

Durham police said that a man suspected of driving while impaired fled from Duke University Hospital late Sunday morning.

Officers had brought the man to the emergency room for treatment, but he fled – still wearing his hospital gown – while medical staff was drawing his blood, police said.

Officers gave pursuit on foot and found the man in the woods, near Circuit and Research drives. He was wearing just his underwear at that point, police said.

No one was injured in the chase.

Police haven't released the man's name.
