Large fire burns Wayne County house

house fire

A fire broke out in a house at 863 Luby Smith Road in Princeton around 7 a.m. Sunday, Wayne County authorities said.

Flames had fully engulfed the house by the time firefighters arrived, emergency dispatchers said. Firefighters were still battling the blaze over an hour after it broke out.

The residents of the house got out safely, dispatchers said.

Neighbor Brooke Norris wrote to WRAL that she had "never seen anything like it in my life." Four fire departments had responded, Norris said.

The 2,900-square-foot home was listed for sale for approximately $239,900 on the National Association of Realtors' Web site. The property was first listed for sale in October 2008.
