Cary boy to compete in pretzel coaster competition

Bradley Pehr, 13, of Cary, created this pretzel coaster. He will compete in the final building competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

A 13-year-old Cary boy has been selected as one of six semi-finalists in a pretzel roller-coaster build-off. Bradley Pehr will compete in the final building competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

The contest is hosted by Snyder's of Hanover and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va. Semi-finalists ranged in age from 11 to 29 years old.

Using only pretzels, a glue gun and his creativity, Bradley will compete against the other five semi-finalists during a timed competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

They have to build one of Busch Gardens’ famous coasters, Apollo’s Chariot, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this season. The contestants will be judged by an engineer and expert from Busch Gardens, a pretzel expert from Snyder’s of Hanover and a roller coaster fan from the American Coaster Enthusiasts club.

The grand-prize winner will be awarded a four-pack of Platinum Passes valid for admission and in-park discounts for two years at Worlds of Discovery parks throughout the United States. The winner will also get a year’s supply of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels. The estimated retail value of the grand prize is more than $1,350.
