Bradley Pehr, 13, of Cary, created this pretzel coaster. He will compete in the final building competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

A 13-year-old Cary boy has been selected as one of six semi-finalists in a pretzel roller-coaster build-off. Bradley Pehr will compete in the final building competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

The contest is hosted by Snyder's of Hanover and Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Va. Semi-finalists ranged in age from 11 to 29 years old.

Using only pretzels, a glue gun and his creativity, Bradley will compete against the other five semi-finalists during a timed competition at Busch Gardens on July 16.

They have to build one of Busch Gardens’ famous coasters, Apollo’s Chariot, which celebrates its 10th anniversary this season. The contestants will be judged by an engineer and expert from Busch Gardens, a pretzel expert from Snyder’s of Hanover and a roller coaster fan from the American Coaster Enthusiasts club.

The grand-prize winner will be awarded a four-pack of Platinum Passes valid for admission and in-park discounts for two years at Worlds of Discovery parks throughout the United States. The winner will also get a year’s supply of Snyder’s of Hanover pretzels. The estimated retail value of the grand prize is more than $1,350.

This is news why?

ncuspam : I'm a little surprised at how many negative things you have to say about what I would call a very light-hearted topic. It's pretzels, for Pete's sake, and something fun and creative for a child to do. I think it's a great opportunity for the younger generation (who are often bored and roaming the streets looking for mischief) to do something a little constructive and creative. I was raised to not waste food, also, but I believe this equates to all the macaroni crosses and necklaces we made in art class and Bible School. Lighten up a little.

That is very cool! Good luck to him! ncsuspam- I'm sure they were stale pretzels that no one would want to eat anyway... =)

ncsuspam - Seriously????

GOOD LUCK!! some of you need to calm down.
