Lawmaker's wife files for custody of sons

Raleigh, N.C. — State Rep. Ty Harrell and his wife have separated amidst allegations he has engaged in extramarital affairs, according to court documents.

Melanie Dupon is seeking custody of the couple's two sons, child support and alimony in a petition, which was filed last Friday.

Harrell, D-Wake, told WRAL News that he was surprised by the filing.

"This came totally out of the blue," he said. "This is obviously a difficult time for us. My wife and I are separated.”

He said he and his wife remain focused on the well-being of their sons.

You could not have said that better. He has voted with the party line almost 100% of the time. I was embarrassed to have him as my representative before this story came out. The tie and smile are nice, but the suit's empty.

I'm so tired of politicians who can't keep their personal lives straight!!! How can they even hope to lead our country with all the mess they've made of their own lives, and I'm talking about Democrats and Republicans!

As someone who helped elect Ty twice, count me down as a vote against him.

This guy is standing in the way of community efforts to stop the school redistricting in Wake county. Before the election in 2008, he refused to take a stand on our requests to implement AT Large Voting for the Wake County School board. We're getting no representation out of this guy.

He needs to get in line with his constituents in Cary, Morrisville, and West Raleigh. He is doing absolutely nothing to help us here, all the while he's cheating on his wife AND KIDs in his free time.

who i fell sorry for is the kids. they have to suffer through this. as for mom and dad, cheaters would put it on their show.

this is not news,its personal. you dont drag families into stuff. i hate when news companies put all this personal stuff on as if its important news.
