Scotland Neck man, woman dead in murder-suicide

A Scotland Neck man shot and killed his 34-year-old wife before turning the gun on himself in their home Saturday morning, according to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. G. Evans said deputies received a call about a possible murder-suicide at 67 Access Road, off N.C. Highway 125, shortly before 7 a.m. At the home, they found Jesus Flores, 41, and Catherine Ann Flores, dead from gunshot wounds to the head.

A preliminary investigation determined that Jose Flores killed Catherine Flores and then himself.

Two of the couple's four children were home at the time but were unharmed.

The couple had a history of domestic violence, Evans said. According to the state Department of Correction, Jose Flores was convicted of assault on a female in 1992.

Autopsies were scheduled for early this week.
