24-hour diner coming to Raleigh's Glenwood South

e-mail print friendly

A 24-hour diner is coming to Raleigh's downtown entertainment district.

The Diner will open in the fall in Glenwood South and serve malts, ice cream sodas, burgers, fries and other favorite American fare, its owner, Niall Hanley says.

Hanley, who owns and operates Hibernian Irish Restaurant and Pub and Solas – both in Glenwood South – said he has been thinking about the idea for a few years.

The Diner will open at 414 Glenwood Ave., where Hard Times Café used to be, he says.

awesome. i think it will do well. plenty of people in that area, all hours of the night. and all the new condos will certainly help.

It's about time there were more 24 hour options. When I moved here to Raleigh I was always amazed at such a large city having so few 24 hour eateries, shops, etc....

yes! yes! yes!

Want to see what this place will be like after club hours? I invite you to go check out the Waffle house on New Bern or Capitol after the clubs let out. Ya, enjoy your diner.

A late night diner is good and all, but even having a *daytime* diner alternative in Glenwood South would be nice as well. I could also see students from nearby Campbell Law popping in for a study break, to say nothing of NC State, Meredith, Peace, Shaw, St. Augs, etc.

Snoopys and CharGrill have good food, but *no* indoor seating. The Baskin-Robbins/Dunkin Donuts closes early (7 on weeknights, not much later on weekends???) so this will be a good alternative and shows the "maturing" of the Glenwood area into more of an all-day self-sustaining area.

The pizza place going in next door, in what used to be Vin, is going to have a hard time competing with Mellow Mushroom up the street, but the wait at MM is long at peak times.
