Two shot, killed outside Greenville bar

Greenville, N.C. — Greenville police are investigating a drive-by shooting near The Other Place bar Tuesday morning.

Kip Gaskins of the Greenville Police Department said there was a fight at the intersection of Fifth and Reed streets just after 2 a.m., and that the shooting happened shortly thereafter.

Police said Eastern Carolina University student Edgar Landon Blackley, 22, was shot, along with restaurant worker Charles Andrew Kirby, 28. The men were struck in their upper bodies by bullets fired from a white sedan. Gaskins said the victims were most likely innocent bystanders.

Both victims were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital where they died, police said.

Police have not released a description of the shooter.

East Carolina University sent an alert to students Tuesday morning, describing the suspects as two black men. "The first suspect is described as having light skin, being tall, and wearing a white T-shirt. The other suspect is described as being tall, wearing a white V-neck shirt and wearing a red hat," the alert said.

The vehicle that the suspect was driving at the time of the shooting was found around noon Tuesday on McDowell Street in Greenville, police said.

intuit I lived in downtown Greenville for 9 years. I live in downtown Raleigh now. Do I have the same problems here that I had there? Nope. It just doesn't happen in the downtown area here like it does there, and I'm sure there are a ton of ex-ECU people that will back me up. As far as the person who said something about take NCSU out of Raleigh and what do you have? Well, you would have one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas with a high level of educated, working people. Take EC U out of Greenville, and you would have Marshall Law declared within 6 months.

yep, alot of cops get their kicks out of harassing kids than trying to go after real criminals. where i grew up in harnett county, there were drug dealers everywhere and crack houses galore, the cops left them alone, but God forbit you run two miles over the speed limit, you were toast.

i went to grad school recently at ecu and at least 2 -3 times a week we would get "campus alerts" describing some sort of robbery, break in, assault, etc. and the suspects were all the same. every, and i mean every time. black male wearing long white tees. seems like the greenville pd should get a clue and start taking back the streets. but pka826 is exactly right...it makes their jobs alot easier when all they have to do is bust college kids for petty offenses rather than bust the true criminals.

as college towns go, boone doesnt have half the trouble that greenville does. of course, most of the boone locals are not gun toting thugs. as for the gun grabbers, for the most part, they are not concerned about criminals with gun, most of their hatred is geared toward country folk who use guns to protect their families. most of them are not familiar with the constitution. i'm sure the jews could have used a gun or two to protect themselves from the nazis, but hitler had taken all their guns away.
