Bynum, N.C. — Officials issued a boil-water order Monday for people in the Bynum community following a water main break in the Chatham County water system near the intersection of U.S. Highway 15/501 and Bynum Road.
Officials said residents and businesses should boil water for at least one minute before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, preparing food, washing dishes or making ice. People also could use bottled water as an alternative, officials said.
The advisory was issued as a precaution, officials said, noting technicians haven't identified any bacteria in the water supply because of the broken main.
Crews were working to repair the break, and officials said they would notify residents and businesses when they are no longer advised to boil water. The order would remain in effect for at least 24 hours, they said.
