Campbell sees increase in law school applications

The number of applications for admission to Campbell University's Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law have surged, the university reported Monday.

As of May 31, the university said, the number of applicants for the Fall 2009 semester are up 25 percent over the previous year, while applications to law schools nationally are up 6 percent.

The school's relocation in the fall from the main Campbell University campus in Buies Creek to Raleigh seems to be having a direct impact on applicants, the university said. Applications have steadily increased since October 2007, when the university announced the move.

In September, the law school will open for classes at a 225 Hillsborough St., a 109,000-square-foot space with 13 classrooms, a 175-seat auditorium and a 25,000-square-foot library.

University officials said the law school was relocated, in part, to give students more access to internships with law firms and clerkships with judges.

The Raleigh Division of the North Carolina Business Court will move into the same building, making Campbell one of only a handful of law schools nationwide to house a working court.

Sadly this is more hungry lawyers to live off society. We need statesmen and not ambulance chasers.

Campbell has a lot of class - I hope they will graduate attorneys that have some integrity to replace the "Mary Easley-type" attorneys.
