FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — A Hope Mills man was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison after pleading guilty to killing his former girlfriend and her mother three years ago.

Andrea Scott, 17, and Monica Gacutan, 37, were found beaten and stabbed to death in their Hope Mills home on June 10, 2006.

Michael Anthony McDonald, 21, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder in the case and was sentenced to consecutive life terms in prison without the possibility of parole.

McDonald and Scott had broken up a few days before the slayings, authorities said.

Gacutan was an Army master sergeant whose husband was stationed in Kuwait at the time.
