STAR, N.C. — The parents of a 3-month-old boy found dead at home last weekend have been charged with child abuse and neglect, police said.

Filaberto Isaiah Sanchez was found unconscious inside 110 S. Main St., Apt. 1, early Sunday, and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, Star Police Chief Dempsey Owens Jr. said.

The baby's body was sent to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office in Chapel Hill for an autopsy to determine a cause of death.

A preliminary investigation determined that the child had physical injuries, Owens said, so his parents were arrested.

Filaberto Cortes Sanchez and Christina Marie Johnson were being held Friday in the Montgomery County Jail under $50,000 secured bonds.

More charges could be filed in the case, depending on the autopsy results, Owens said.
