Traffic is moving again on westbound Interstate 40 at Harrison Avenue in Cary after a wreck involving a motorcycle, a vehicle and a tractor-trailer.

The crash happened just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

One person was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, said Capt. Everett Clendenin of the state Highway Patrol.

For nearly an hour, all westbound lanes of I-40 were closed and traffic backed up to the Wake Avenue exit. The wreck also affected eastbound traffic. All lanes reopened just after 5 p.m.

The Highway Patrol shifted RBC traffic for vehicles coming from Durham onto I-70 east, and for drivers from Raleigh onto Glenwood Avenue and Edwards Mill Road. For people traveling from Research Triangle Park, they were advised to take Highway 54 to Trinity Road, or to Blue Ridge Road.

It was unknown what caused the crash and the investigation is on going.

I read on the wtvd.com(abclocal 11 news) that the motorcyclist died last night around 8pm at the hopsital and he was Fort Bragg Soldier. There were some comments made that the Mans name was Harold Boyd. I don't think wral has reported this yet. It came in at 7am this morning on abclocal 11news.

Eastbound traffic was backed up all the way past the Durham Freeway at 445pm.

This just proves to me that I need to start checking traffic before I leave work. My 30 minute drive just took me an hour and a half!

I got caught in the east bound traffic for an hour...and for what...RUBBERNECKERS!! What, do you WANT to see a an injured person or worse?! Unreal!

goLOLo!
