Traffic moving again on I-40 West after motorcycle wreck

wreck

Traffic is moving again on westbound Interstate 40 at Harrison Avenue in Cary after a wreck involving a motorcycle, a vehicle and a tractor-trailer.

The crash happened just before 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

One person was seriously injured and transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital, said Capt. Everett Clendenin of the state Highway Patrol.

For nearly an hour, all westbound lanes of I-40 were closed and traffic backed up to the Wake Avenue exit. The wreck also affected eastbound traffic. All lanes reopened just after 5 p.m.

The Highway Patrol shifted RBC traffic for vehicles coming from Durham onto I-70 east, and for drivers from Raleigh onto Glenwood Avenue and Edwards Mill Road. For people traveling from Research Triangle Park, they were advised to take Highway 54 to Trinity Road, or to Blue Ridge Road.

It was unknown what caused the crash and the investigation is on going.
