Fayetteville, N.C. — Officers arrested a man overnight Friday in the slaying of Jimmy Ali McCollough, 34, who was killed near a club where he worked.
Zachary Lee Oaks, 22, faces charges of first-degree murder. He was being held in the Cumberland County Jail without bond Saturday.
Police found McCollough, of the 1500 block of Cashier's Lane, dead along the road at 119 Joseph St. shortly after midnight April 14. The scene was near Club Emages, a drag club on Swain Street where McCollough worked under the name Imaje Devera.
The club wasn't open that night, so it was unclear why McCollough was there.
The club owner said that police told him McCollough was stabbed and that they were investigating the slaying as a hate crime.
Police have not commented on those aspects of the case.
