The Chevrolet driver, Megan Lee, 18, of Dunn, was expected to be charged, troopers said.

I'm guessing texting, makeup or cell phone talking was to blame...Since bicycles are supposed to go w/ the traffic flow it's a little unrealistic to require them to look behind don't ya think?

Well, I should have said the only time LAWFUL cycling is dangerous.... Riding at night without lights, riding the wrong way, failing to stop for signs and/or lights, or zipping around on side walks are all dangerous.

The only time cycling is dangerous is when other road users fail to look for them or fail to treat them like any other road user.

It seems to me, punishing the law breaker makes the most sense.

The reason behind protecting cyclists' right to the road (and mopeds) is that the right to travel is not restricted to those who can afford cars or are willing to be licensed.

The reason for a driver's license is that you are operating a dangerous motor vehicle on the public roads with others. For me to ride a bike the danger, for the most part, is to me. Car drivers are more dangerous to others than themselves.

I have the right to walk on the side of the road too but I keep my dumb hiney outta the road.
